While pirating Nintendo’s copyrighted games and software is completely illegal as well as immoral there are several uses for an R4 card that are simply not being considered. For instance: the Homebrew games community use R4 cards to develop, test and share their games with. Without these flash cards budding games developers might never take those first steps towards a career as a games programmer or artist.
4. Affordable. Thanks to improved manufacturing processes and years of experience the price to buy new R4i cards has dropped rapidly. The R4i and R4i Gold are now highly affordable: available to purchase with high capacity microSD memory cards for about half the price of a regular game cartridge.
5. Memory Compatibility. While the original R4 card only supported microSD memory cards up to 2gb; the newer R4i and R4i Gold support the full range of microSDHC memory cards available from companies like Sandisk and Kingston. With up to 32GB of memory DSi owners can use this huge capacity to store entire music collections, whole movies and thousands of homebrew games and pictures on their R4i card.
