Obviously, their main targets are the bookies themselves. However, they are not going to allow people who are breaking the law to just “get away” with it. Do not forget that they know what you are doing is illegal.

So, what can you to do if you want to place a bet on sports and you do not live in a state that allows this? You could visit a casino in a state that allows it. This requires travel time to and from the state that has a casino. Another option is to call someone you know who lives near a casino and ask them to place the bet for you. But, again, this is a risky endeavor, because there is no protection for you if you do not get your winnings. The ticket is not even in your name.

Another alternative is placing sportsbook wages online, although there is question if this is legal or not. There are places where you can place a bet online. Many online sites say they freely accept United States players and encourage people to bet on there sites, but it is not legal. The law seems to be very vague here.
