One of the more famous ways people try to find loose slots is through the Zig-Zag Method. I am not sure how it came to be called the “zigzag method. It could be by how the gambler Zigs and Zags his/her way through the casino floor searching for the perfect slot machine. Either way, the Zig Zag Method is based on opinion instead of scientific fact.

As the Zig Zag method goes, the player is looking for patterns on the slots. For one example, imagine that bananas are a jackpot slot. If three bananas are on the payline and a third banana is one line off the payline, this is an example of the Zig Zag theory. Another variation of this method is that casinos place loose machines in the areas most visited, like near the cashiers, the restrooms or the casino gaming table. So, instead of gambling at the machines near the front entrance, you should play the machines where casino traffic is heaviest.

This theory can have a flaw, the theory that I am talking about is the “hit frequency”. The hit ratio is the percentage of slot machine spins a slot machine pays off instead of taking your money. It’s like this, one slot machine might have a higher hit frequency, but another machine might have fewer hits (wins,payout), but pay off more when these hits take place.

The casino staff may put a slot with a high hit frequency rate near an entrance or exit door or any other high traffic area, like the bar or the ATM machine. That does not mean the machine is paying off more than machines in some of the other areas of the casino. In all truthfulness, it could be the total opposite. Casinos are not in business to just give away free money, they are constantly coming up with new ways to get these type of results

I wouldn’t expect to see a loose slot machine near a door. In fact, casino managers know about these myths. If anything, the casino might place slots with smaller payback percentages where gamblers are more likely to sit down.

Once play begins, a random number generator inside the machine determines the outcome. This RNG is generating random numbers at a rate of thousands per second. It is very hard to judge, as it really is a hit or miss with the Random Number Generator at work.

The Random Number Generator is pretty random in todays era of 64 GB pc’s and it is pretty tough to get a read on these things. If not impossible but that doesn’t keep me from trying, and I still seem to win, I am just unable to prove my theory.
